Seasonal Flavor: Autumn Picnic – Fig & Honey with Goat Cheese Cupcake

Fall Napa Valley

Napa Valley in the fall is one of the most gorgeous times of year in the outskirts of the San Francisco Bay Area. The beauty of the grape vines turning to golden red and orange make a perfect back drop for this mecca of amazing food and wine. It conjures up images of bike rides in the valley, sips of wine while grazing on cheese and a fresh baguette from Bouchon Bakery.

Inspired by the flavors of the Napa Valley, I set out to create a seasonal cupcake that would compliment this natural fall beauty in my backyard. Embracing the tastes of autumn, I choose ingredients that would work well for wine pairings or for the foodie who just loves unique flavor combination in a cupcake.

Here  for September & October, introducing my latest Seasonal Flavor…

Autumn Picnic – Fig & Honey with Goat Cheese Frosting
Starting with a cupcake infused with local honey from Marshall’s Farm Honey, it is filled with fig jam and topped with a decadent goat cheese frosting and dried orange wedge.

Autumn Picnic – Fig & Honey with Goat Cheese Cupcake

Don’t be intimidated by the goat cheese frosting in this cupcake. While it has hints of savory with a bit of goat cheese in the frosting, that savory flavor is quickly balanced to a sweet dessert by the honey and fig jam.  The result is a wonderful explosion of flavors in one cupcake.

So, if you’re going to be in the Napa Valley area in September or October for a weekend getaway or maybe a bachelorette party, let me know. I’d love to whip up a dozen (or two) of this eclectic flavor worthy of your picnic lunch in the valley. Or if you just have to taste this flavor, order a batch for your next dinner party or birthday celebration.

Happy Fall!

(P.S. – My wine connoisseur friends suggested this cupcake might work well with Grgich Hills Violetta dessert wine. You’ll have to try it and let me know if they’re right.)
